Condition/Comments: Two gallon stoneware jug with Pittsburgh, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid jug with tooled spout, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising: SCHMIDT (ampersand) FRIDAY. WINES (ampersand) LIQUORS. PITTSBURGH. PA. 2. Cobalt stripe decoration above and at base. Cobalt script 2 at base, flanked by dashes. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. The iron in the material has given this piece a nice cast of orange-brown to contrast with the warm gray of the material color and the blue of the cobalt imprint.
