Old Beer Cans & Breweriana for Sale • Archives for Research • Free Appraisals
Business Name: Jos. Schlitz Brewing Co., Milwaukee, WisconsinManufacturer/Plant: UnknownDate of manufacture: circa 1930sCondition/Comments: Rare piece. Really interesting construction consists of a painted screen on each broad face with solid tin end panel that each contain colored glass beads that transmit their color brilliantly when illuminated from within. These are retained in the shade by sunburst-shaped brass or copper clips. The top is a separate stamped piece of tinplate formed as decorative molding fitted to the top of the shade. The tin portions appear to have been plated with nickel or copper at one point that has since turned green or eroded away due to oxidation. These areas appear to have originally been painted black and some paint remains. The imprint on the screens is damaged from heat, and age has both discolored and perforated the screen where paint has dried and/or chipped away at the mesh. This is the only example we have ever seen and it must have look terrific when new. 8 w x 6-1/2 h x 5 d. All items are original unless otherwise noted.
