Wheel-thrown, highly-bulbous form with rounded shoulder, tooled spout and applied strap handle. Crisp stenciled cobalt merchant advertising: Samuel Cooper Pittsburgh with multiple freehand cobalt stripes, squiggles, dashes and a Fancy Pennsylvania (2-Gallon) capacity designation. Shiny, gray Salt-Glazed exterior. Cooper was a 19th century merchant in the historic Diamond Market area, which was essentially the original Pittsburgh Town Square and dealer marketplace. Old cork in opening and felt pads have been applied to the base. 9-inch diameter x 14-1/4 h, likely 2 gallon capacity. All items are original unless otherwise noted.
