Brewery: Anheuser-Busch. St. Louis, Missouri
Manufacturer/Plant: JEMS Metal Stamping Co.
Date of manufacture: circa late 1940s
Contents/Type: 12" x 15" Tin over cardboard (TOC) sign
Condition/Comments: At first glance the design of this sign might suggest a holiday theme but, on closer inspection, notice the wreath is made of wheat or barley, hop leaves, and hop cones. The background looks like a lush velvety stage curtain. There is even a rendering of a grain stalk in the stem of the glass. Perhaps these are all subtle indicators that Budweiser is pure and for the discriminating. Is this early subliminal advertising? We can only speculate on its purpose, but we do know for a fact that this sign is in excellent condition, with just a trace of minor wear to the corners of the bevel. It would make a wonderful mate to the tray that bears the same design.
