Old Beer Cans & Breweriana for Sale • Archives for Research • Free Appraisals
Business Name: Bass & Co., Burton-on-Trent, England, Non-U.S. (see comments/description)Manufacturer/Plant: UnknownDate of manufacture: Pre-ProhibitionCondition/Comments: Similar to the earlier Kings Ale, the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) initiated, in 1929, the mash of this special brew. It was available to the public beginning in 1930 and remained available, due to a very high price of about 5 pounds sterling per pint (about $6.30) until 1945. That is equivalent to $116 today when adjusted for inflation. And each bottle contained two pints ($232)! Research indicates the red wax was quite brittle from early on and that bottles with it still intact are hard to come by. The top portion, into which the Bass logo was impressed, is missing but the rest is intact. The label is whole, with a tiny piece missing and a stain on the right side but it is still firmly attached to the glass and displays well. The bottle is still full and is boldly embossed with the brew and date on the reverse. About 11-1/2 h. NOTE: Full bottles will be emptied unless arrangements are made in advance to pick up/deliver. All items are original unless otherwise noted. For questions, feedback, or to sell a similar item contact Dan via email.
